Dementia Care Specialist 

As baby boomers age, the population of people suffering from dementia is expected to grow. This course provides essential information and facilitates students’ understanding about neurological diseases that impact cognition and memory as well as practical application of effective skills for supporting people with dementia. Nearly all disciplines benefit from the expertise of dementia care specialists, as do families of people with such conditions. Students come away with increased knowledge of how to care for people with dementia. 



Online Learning and Teaching for K-12 Teachers

Designed specifically for K-12 educators, this course shares strategies for integrating online tools into the learning process. Students examine current eTools such as drag-and-drop games, virtual labs and ways in which to incorporate these Web-based materials into their own teaching styles. Optional 1.0 graduate credit for each course is awarded by the School of Education at the University of South Dakota. After students register for this course, they pay an additional fee of just $40 to the University of South Dakota for the awarding and processing of their graduate credit.


Social Media and Online Tools for K-12 Teachers

Social media has become a staple in communications for staying connected and obtaining information. Because many K-12 students already use this technology, it can prove a useful way to engage them in the learning process. This course provides techniques for enhancing students’ educational experience and adding dimension to any class setting through Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, GoogleDocs, Adobe ConnectNow, Flicker, Animoto, Earth Album, Teacher Tube, blogs and virtual labs.


Generational Learning Styles for K-12 Teachers

Today’s students learn using different styles than generations past. This course offers 20 techniques geared to this generation of students to facilitate the learning process. 


Gender in the Classroom

Research indicates that girls and boys learn differently. This course discusses current research data and offers 10 techniques for communicating and educating girls and 10 tips that are specific to boys. Optional 1.0 graduate credit for each course is awarded by the School of Education at the University of South Dakota. Business Research Certificate

Market research and using the most appropriate data facilitate the decision-making process for any organization. This three-course certificate teaches students the skills they need to effectively communicate research results to specific audiences to maximize their business’s impact in the global marketplace. This program is designed for business professionals, entrepreneurs and marketing personnel.

  • Introduction to Business Research
    This course provides students with specific knowledge for researching and using data, which is important to any decision-making process. Students learn how to effectively communicate research results to superiors as well as use the information to better connect with target audiences and specific customers. The course is broad based and provides a strong foundation for meeting business research needs.
  • Business Statistics
    From budget projections to inventory tracking, business leaders rely on numbers to make sound financial decisions. Students learn how to make these numbers meaningful in their day-to-day planning and operations in addition to applying and interpreting numbers for real-world business practices.

    Words prove a powerful source of information that can influence and promote sound business decisions. This course centers on qualitative research methods, a form of research that is more descriptive than traditional quantitative methods, which are grounded in statistics. Research methods such as focus groups and in-depth interviews provide a wealth of knowledge that numbers alone cannot. Students explore these methodologies and how to use the data obtained in this fashion to make sound business decisions. 


Business Coaching Certificate 

Mentoring and coaching have become staples for improving business leadership and providing employees support. They prove mutually beneficial for employers and employees. Students create and implement coaching and mentoring programs for their workplaces. Critical analysis, program improvement and group dynamics are also among topics discussed.

In this course, students explore the many aspects and potential hurdles of building a business plan — one step at a time. Using Personality Profiles for Better Work Performance 

Understanding personality profiles can increase an employee’s overall effectiveness at work and help people cultivate strong relationships. Students explore their own personalities and improve their communication styles. Students practice conveying their ideas effectively and understanding those who do not share the same style. Course fees cover the cost of students’ DiSC behavioral personality profile assessments and reviews.


Supervisory and Leadership Certificate 

The most valuable asset of any business is its employees. Therefore, one of the most important responsibilities of supervisors regards developing efficient teams. Students explore effective delegation strategies, performance evaluations and writing performance reviews. Topics such as supervisors’ roles and responsibilities and strategies for improving their overall effectiveness as leaders are also covered. Mobile Marketing and Technology

Designing Successful Webinars 

Webinars provide a new way to hold meetings, saving money and reaching more people than traditional in-person meetings. Students investigate ways to use webinars to educate customers, hold staff meetings and train new employees via presentations, virtual seminars and much more. Although the technology is simple, good webinar presentation techniques are critical. Students obtain four key strategies to make their webinars more successful and acquire techniques to better reach their audiences.


Google Analytics 

Website statistics afford business professionals several key opportunities to increase their profits and drive website traffic. This course, aimed at nontechnical users, takes students through all the key techniques and uses of Google Analytics, a free online tool that is now the world standard in website analytics. Topics include understanding visitor traffic, calculating return on investment for online advertising and drumming up conversions and sales with website visitors.


Cyber Security for Managers

Cyber security is vital for all business functions, ranging from online banking and education, to Facebook and Wi-Fi. This course enables students to obtain up-to-date cyber security techniques. It is designed for nontechnical managers, directors and employees who wish to learn more about threats, vulnerabilities, safeguards, common attacks, viruses, malware and spyware that can impact their organizations. Additional topics include disaster recovery planning, intrusion detection and prevention, basic security architecture, introductory forensics and cyber terrorism.

    Students discover new ways to improve their email promotions, including when to email, what to email and testing email copy. Facebook for Business: Advanced Skills for Businesses and Organizations

This course teaches students how to adapt their marketing messages to suit the Facebook platform as well as how to integrate Facebook across all marketing areas. Students discover what goes on behind the scenes of various Facebook pages. Tools and proven techniques for increasing business and expanding an organization’s reach are among topics discussed. In addition, students monitor their pages to determine whether or not their message has been seen and customers have acted using the information. Media-Buying Strategies 

Discover the marketing planning process to clearly delineate the relationship between marketing and media-buying decisions. Students examine marketing functions through case analyses to successfully integrate all elements of the media-buying process. This approach emphasizes the marketing decisions that business owners are most likely to confront when meeting with various media outlets and managing their marketing campaigns.


YouTube for Businesses

YouTube is the second-largest Internet search engine. This course focuses on increasing marketing exposure through the power of video. Students learn what types of videos work best and examine case studies on how other businesses and organizations use YouTube.
