​          Deptford Twp. – The Center for People in Transition at Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) hosts a number of empowerment, legal and financial workshops during the month of May. Unless otherwise noted, all workshops are free and open to the public. Registration is mandatory. You must be at least 18 years or older to register.  Call 856-415-2222 or email to register.

         "How to Use Google More Effectively" --- Join Lauri Kuder, Microsoft Office Master, to learn how to use Google for so much more than internet browsing! During this session you'll learn to create, manage and even share documents, photos and much more in Google. Please come to the workshop with an active Google account and make sure you know your current user name and password. The workshop will be held on Monday, May 2 from 6-9 p.m. This workshop is sponsored by People in Transition and the Heart of Gloucester County. 

         "Financial Aspects of Divorce" " ---Joseph Johnson, Owner of Main Street Financial, designed this class to help you navigate the complicated and stressful ordeal of divorce. It covers the broad range of financial issues faced when going through a divorce and is designed to help you avoid costly mistakes, clarify your expectations and begin planning for a "successful" divorce. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 3 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

         "Introduction to Medicaid for the Elderly" --- Join John P. Ciocco, Esq. of Hoffman DiMuzio to learn how to navigate the scary proposition of an elderly parent or relative suddenly requiring long-term care in a nursing home. Whether you choose the role or not, you could become the one responsible for managing this transition. How do you pay for the nursing home? Can they take the house? Could you be personally liable for your loved one's debts? Rather than drown in the sea of rumors about how Medicaid works, educate yourself before the unexpected happens. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 4 from 7-8:30 p.m.

         "Understanding Your Investments" --- Joseph Johnson, Owner of Main Street Financial, will provide you with the information you need to help plan for your financial security. The class has been designed to help you better understand your investments and learn how to make your money work for you. Topics covered will include stocks vs. bonds, mutual funds, investing, tax-deferred investing, risk management and estate planning. The workshop will be held on Thursday, May 5 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

         "The 5-C Solution – Moving from Confusion to Clarity in Highly Emotional Times"  --- Cindy Cipriani, CGRS and founder of Clear Path Institute, knows that in today's uncertain world, life can change in an instant and throw you into physical and emotional chaos. Have you lost a job? A relationship? A loved one? A pet? Are you filled with stress and anxiety as you try to figure out what to do next? The "5-C Solution" will give you an effective tool to transform chaos and confusion into clarity in your personal, financial, social and spiritual life. You will walk away with a step-by-step formula to make clear choices now and in the future. The workshop will be held on BOTH Mondays, May 9 and 23 from 6-8:30 p.m. You must attend both sessions to participate.          "Advanced Care Planning" --- Join Anna Miller, Community Liaison of Vitas Healthcare, to learn how to support a family member or friend who is coping with a serious illness, deterioration of quality of life and frequent trips to the hospital or emergency room. Vitas Healthcare provides care for adult and pediatric patients with a wide range of life-limiting illness. They are aware of the challenges involved in being a caretaker and can help provide you with solutions. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 10 from 12-1:30 p.m. OR Wednesday, May 11 from 6:30-8 p.m. This workshop is sponsored by People in Transition and the Heart of Gloucester County. 

         "Laws of Separation and Divorce" --- Lynn Castillo, Esq. will speak on grounds for divorce, court procedures, alimony, equitable distribution, custody, visitation rights and other concerns.  The workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 10 from 7-9 p.m.

         "How to Sell or Buy a House During a Divorce" --- Join Brian Ziegenfuss of RE/MAX Connection to learn how to avoid nine critical mistakes while selling or buying a house during a divorce. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 11 from 7-9 p.m.

           "Widowhood: Getting Through the Financial Challenges" --- Financial Advisor Monique Castillo will guide you through the steps you should take to maintain your financial footing when dealing with the loss of a spouse. The workshop will cover financial considerations for widows, how to begin to determine the income you will need and timely actions to be taken. You will leave with an actionable checklist to help you stay focused and move forward. The workshop will be held on Thursday, May 12 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

            "Smart Women Finish Rich" ---- Joseph Johnson, Owner of Main Street Financial will equip individuals with seven steps to plan for their financial security.  These steps are designed to help participants figure out where they stand financially, improve their lives and put hard-earned money where their values are.  The workshop will be held on Tuesday, May 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

            "Parenting Skills for the Single Parent" --- Jennie McQuaide, Ph.D. recognizes that parenting is a complex job filled with rewards and tribulations. For the single parent, the task becomes a greater challenge due to the absence of an on-site partner and the many stresses of bereavement or divorce. She will lead you through some creative solutions for the single parent. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 18 from 7-8:30 p.m.

            "Navigating Child Support" --- Child Support Specialist Gina Foster of Gloucester County Social Services is leading a workshop for anyone interested in establishing paternity, filing for child support or enforcing an existing court order. She will explain the child support process, your rights and what you can expect in court. The roles of family court, probation and social services will also be explored. The workshop will be held on Monday, May 23 from 6:30-8 p.m.

            "What is Your Yellow Brick Road? – Creating Your Roadmap to the Ideal You" --- Join Certified Professional Life Coach Sharon Roth-Lichtenfeld to learn how to find the path back to happiness and wholeness after going through a difficult time such as a divorce, separation or the death of a loved one. Discover how to create a roadmap as you journey down your yellow brick road to find the ideal you. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 25 from 7-9 p.m.

            "Retirement Income Planning" --- Monique Castillo, Financial Advisor, will speak on the challenges you face in making sure you have enough income to last through retirement while planning around life events such as earning slowdowns/breaks, being a primary caregiver for an extended period of time and simply longevity. Most people will spend 5x more time planning their vacation than then their own retirement. Join her to embrace the challenge and increase your financial preparedness. The workshop will be held on Thursday, May 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Rowan College at Gloucester County's 250-acre campus is located on Tanyard Road in Deptford, just off Exit 56 off of Route 55.
