Deptford Twp. – A new online resource to coach students in their choice of academic programs and career paths by providing regional data on estimated salaries, annual job openings and the type of degrees required, is now available on the Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) website.

A one-stop-shopping site, “Career Coach” matches a student’s interest to careers via an online assessment, helping to streamline the job search process. The College’s newest online service also addresses the student who may be unsure about a career choice and undecided on a program of study.  The site provides a valuable evaluation of sustainable careers within a geographical area, along with a listing of educational options. Information about future career positions due to an aging workforce, projections on the number of expected retirements and potential new job openings is also available.

“Whether students have a specific career in mind or are undecided, they can browse local jobs on the RCGC Career Coach site and make a solid connection between our programs and real-world outcomes,” stated Yvonne Greenbaun, dean of Academic Compliance.  “Providing free and easy access to career information specific to our area equips RCGC students to make informed choices.”

“Career Coach provides faculty, advisors and recruitment staff with facts and information about students’ academic interests to help determine demand for current and future programs,” said Megan Ruttler, director of the Center for College & Career Readiness. Ruttler will use Career Coach’s “Find Your Calling”— an initiative designed to help high school students determine a career path— as a guide for job outlooks and to plan for their academic future when that feature launches later in the fall of 2015.

Also being introduced is the “Military Occupation Code” search, which links armed services occupations to civilian career opportunities.  Named a “Military Friendly School” for six consecutive years, the RCGC website now addresses one of the great challenges faced by veterans and ex-military personnel— the need to communicate how military skills transfer to the civilian workforce.

“The data accessible through Career Coach will provide our diverse student population with a better understanding of how a solid education combined with thoughtful planning can lead to a successful and satisfying career,” noted Randee Davidson, assistant director of the Career and Academic Planning (CAP) Center.
