Deptford Twp. – Woodbury residents William and Mellisa Runner were firm believers in the value of education. Raising eight children together, the Runner's fervently stressed the importance of higher education, as well as a career in the industry. Carrying his parents' message after their passing, William Jr. established the Runner Family Memorial Scholarship at Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) in 2013. And nearly a year after establishing a $25,000 endowment, Runner has doubled its funding to $50,000.
"It's truly an honor to know that the Runner family holds Rowan Colege in such high regard and supports its mission of students achieving academic success," said Foundation President Robert McErlane. "This generous gift will continue to assist our students majoring in education."
The scholarship was set in place to not only help students, but to preserve the family's memory in Gloucester County. In order to qualify, first or second year students attending Rowan College at Gloucester County must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Those in high school with intent to attend RCGC must have an equivalent GPA or higher.
The scholarship is given with the intent that it provides a minimum of $2,000 annually to its recipient. For more information on available scholarships and attending RCGC, visit rcgc.edu/scholarships.
