In July, Rowan College at Gloucester County hosted its 51st annual Gloucester County Juried Senior Art Show reception in the College Center's Dr. Ross Beitzel Art Gallery. Sponsored in part by the Gloucester County Division of Senior Services and the Senior Corps and Community Service, the contest allows local artists 60 years of age and older to submit up to two original pieces of artwork for consideration.
First place winners received a cash prize and their entry automatically entered into the annual New Jersey Senior Juried Art Show in October, where the winners from all 21 counties will compete at Meadow Lakes, a Springpoint Community in East Windsor, New Jersey. Two separate competitions will take place based on professional and non-professional ability.
Gloucester County winners in the non-professional category included Eileen Ziegler, Mullica Hill; Rekha Chandra, Williamstown; Joseph Parkany, Mount Royal; Catherine Root, Turnersville; David Wohr, Deptford; Gene Dougherty, Franklinville; and Cathy Matos, Sicklerville. Winners in the professional category included Juanita "Winnie" Higgins, Deptford; Mary Courtney, Elk Township; Larry Lueder, Mantua; Anthony LaGross, Woolwich Township; David Slack, Mullica Hill; Harriet Fuld, Swedesboro; and Robert Govett, Pitman.
