The Career and Academic Planning (CAP) Center at Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) will host their fall transfer fair in the College Center on Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The bi-annual event brings more than 40 public and private colleges and universities to the Rowan College campus to personally greet students and showcase various collegiate opportunities. Students interested in transferring to a four-year university after graduating from RCGC should attend to learn more about their options.
Director of the CAP Center John Ortiz suggests that students do their "homework" and research different universities to prepare for the fair. As a helpful reminder he advises that students have a "consumer mindset," since they are investing in their future.
"College representatives come to help plant the seed for students, then plan individual meetings, build rapport and encourage visits to their campuses," said Ortiz.
Visiting college campuses brings the school to life, which is something a website or catalog can't do, notes Ortiz. He suggests that students should visit prospective schools while they are in session, to experience the university's atmosphere. Ortiz adds that asking current students why they chose that particular school over others is very helpful in narrowing down choices.
"Your 'inner you' has to agree with the school before making your decision," said Ortiz. "Keep in mind that you will be spending the next two years there."
This year's list of attendees includes Arcadia University, Berkeley College, Bloomfield College, Bryant University, Cedar Crest College, Centenary College, Cheyney University, College of St. Elizabeth, DeSales University, DeVry University, Drexel @BCC, Drexel University, Eastern University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Georgian Court University, Goldey-Beacom College, Grand Canyon University, Hussian School of Art, Kean University, LaSalle University, Monmouth University, Montclair State University, Neumann University, Nyack College, Peirce College, Pennsylvania State University, Ramapo College, Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, Rider University, Rowan University, Rutgers University, Saint John's University, Saint Joseph's University, Saint Peter's University, Temple University, University of the Sciences, Villanova University, Widener University, William Patterson University and Wilmington University.
