Representatives from South Jersey Federal Credit Union met with Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) faculty, staff and students on Thurs., Oct. 27 to finalize an agreement granting the College a $25,000 endowment to be used for student scholarships. The credit union’s President and CEO Rahul Kachru presented the $25,000 check along with Vice President of Governmental Affairs Kenneth Barnshaw.
“It is our great pleasure to be a partner of this College — a partner in its growth, a partner in working towards making college more affordable,” remarked Barnshaw, a former student of Gloucester County College (now RCGC). “I couldn’t think of a better place for this endowment to be established.”
South Jersey Federal Credit Union is a full-service financial institution serving more than 45,000 members and over 600 employee groups throughout South Jersey. From its original roots in Camden County, the credit union has expanded its presence all the way to the Jersey Shore, with branches in Deptford, Camden, Glassboro, Pennsylvania, Pleasantville, Voorhees, Moorestown and Vineland. The credit union is a premier partner of the College’s Business and Corporate Center, an active participant in RCGC’s Cooperative Education Program and provides internship opportunities to students of the College.
“What you’re seeing here today is a perfect example of the Foundation, the College and private industry coming together to make financing a post-secondary education more affordable,” said RCGC President Frederick Keating. “We are happy to have South Jersey Federal Credit Union as a premier partner and very grateful for the impact this generous donation will have on the students here.”
This is the second $25,000 endowment South Jersey Federal Credit Union has donated to RCGC. The new endowment will provide two scholarships annually to Business Studies students — one $500 scholarship to a full-time student and one $250 scholarship to a part-time student.
“There are two things critical to finding a good job in today’s economy — education and experience,” remarked Dr. Patricia Claghorn, dean of Business Studies. “Because of generous donors and cooperative education participants like South Jersey Federal Credit Union, our students will leave here with both. They will be ready.”
Through the generosity of individuals, organizations and companies in the area, Rowan College Foundation at Gloucester County offers numerous academic and program scholarships annually to qualified students enrolled on a full- or part-time basis.
