The Rowan College at Gloucester County (RCGC) and Community Chorus will perform a special concert at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Williamstown on November 13 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in memory of Thorofare resident and art enthusiast, Pauline Jonas. Tickets are not required, though goodwill contributions will be accepted at the door.
Throughout her lifetime, Jonas was a passionate supporter of the arts in South Jersey. She frequently organized bus trips to locations including the Barnes Museum, the Philadelphia Ballet and the New York Botanical Gardens through her Living Arts Club, and launched the Cafe of the Arts in the early 2000s. Jonas was a volunteer member of the Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission, founder of the Galleria Deptford and served on the Deptford Recreation Committee, Gloucester County Art League, Old Pine Farm (a land trust) and the South Jersey Poet Society based in Paulsboro.
The RCGC and Community Chorus will pay homage to Jonas' memory through an evening of music by Gabriel Fauré. Requiem, Pavane and Elegie will be performed under the direction of Lawrence De Pasquale. Requiem will highlight the vocal talents of soprano Patricia Januszewski of Mickleton, a retired faculty member of the West Deptford public schools, and baritone Jonathan Stark, parish musician of Zion Lutheran Church in Bristol, P.A. Internationally acclaimed cellist Dr. George Atanasiu, will be featured as a soloist in the composition Elegie.
St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church is located on Carroll Ave. at Main St. in Williamstown. For more information on the upcoming concert, please contact Erika Gardner at 856-464-5214.
The RGCG and Community Chorus concert program is made possible in part through funding from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts and the Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission at Gloucester County College.
