President’s Award for Achievement in Leadership & Service

On Wednesday, May 13, Rowan College at Gloucester County faculty, staff, family and friends celebrated the outstanding achievements of 15 students for their service and leadership qualities. In order to receive this award, each student met the following criteria and their application was evaluated by the Scholarship Committee:


Criteria:

  • Must demonstrate both service and leadership qualities at RCGC

  • Participate and show leadership in academic and extra-curricular activities

  • Scholarship

  • Citizenship and service to the College

  • Exhibit promise of future success

  • Attend RCGC for a minimum of two semesters

  • Community service involvement


Jill Adams — Biology​​

  • Served as vice president of the Science Club where she was an active member.  Jill handled the fundraisers within the club and organized all the clubs' experiments

  • Volunteered her time and designed all the labs for RCGC's Women in Technology Fair, which is an event that engages local junior high school female students

  • Volunteered at Open House


James Anderson —Arts & Sciences​​​

  • Active member of the RCGC's Japanese and Anime Guild

  • Past Screening coordinator for the JAG Club

  • Assisted with Open House events

  • Set up and assisted with various JAG game tournaments


Meghan Brown — Arts & Sciences: Psychology Option​​

  • Softball team member 2014

  • Softball team captain 2015

  • Member of first team All-Conference and all region softball team 2014

  • RCGC Soccer team member 2014

  • Leader, coach and student assistant for RCGC's Unified Sports program in the 2014 and 2015.  Unified Sports is a program that works with students who have disabilities and pairs them with their peers to create a unique bond. 


William Cheety — Arts & Sciences: Criminal Justice Option​​

  • Served as an Ambassador for RCGC

  • Athlete for over four semesters in cross country and track and field

  • Team captain for cross county and track and field

  • Chapter President of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society for two-year colleges

  • Assisted with RCGC's Open House and various recruiting events

  • Co-chair for Phi Theta Kappa book bag drive to help unprivileged children in the community

  • Co-Chair of C4 Week – initiative for degree and credit completion in community colleges

  • Co-chair for mentorship program called "Honors in Action," which helps incoming freshman adapt to their college experience

 

Kathleen Connelly — Arts & Sciences: Psychology Option​​

  • Active member of the Student Government Association and served as SGA Treasurer

  • Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society member and served as VP of Scholarship during Fall 2014 semester

  • Chapter Member of the American Association of Women for  Community Colleges

  • EOF Summer Institute Mentor

  • EOF Club President

  • Assisted with RCGC's Open House and various recruiting events

  • First ever RCGC student to be selected for and attend NEW Leadership NJ – Women's leadership conference

  • Student giving the Charge at RCGC's Commencement


​Elizabeth Dull — Nuclear Medicine Technology​

  • Assisted with fall Open House

  • Active participant in Mother's Matter basket collection and assembly in spring 2014 and 2015

  • Delaware Valley Meeting – sold tee shirts to raise money for the Christine Christaldi Scholarship

  • Coordinated University of Pennsylvania Hospital scan reading sessions


Marianne Fodor — Nursing​

  • Active member of RCGC's Student Nurses Organization and has contributed valuable time to raising funds for scholarships for the organization

  • Marianne was selected to be a peer leader/facilitator for other students.

  • Volunteered for Mothers Matter and assisted in raising funds for the Lauren Rose Albert Foundation.


Saranda Karpuzi — Arts & Sciences: History Option​​​

  • Student Government Representative – as a member she assisted with various fundraisers and the Red Cross Blood Drive

  • Active Chapter Member of the American Association for Women's Community Colleges

  • Volunteered for RCGC's Spring and Fall RCGC's Open House

  • Volunteered for various Student Life event activities


Alessandra Lucci — Education​​​

  • Teachers 2000 Club co-chairperson

  • Active participant in the College wide food drive at the holidays

  • Organized a collection within their club for "Stockings for Santa" during the holidays for under-privileged children

  • Participant in the orientation of incoming Teachers 2000 students

  • Organized a mentoring program for freshmen education majors

 

Christine McCabe — Education​​

  • Teachers 2000 Club co-chairperson

  • Active participant in the College wide food drive at the holidays

  • Organized a collection within their club for "Stockings for Santa" during the holidays for under-privileged children

  • Participant in the orientation of incoming Teachers 2000 students

  • Organized a mentoring program for freshmen education majors


Olivia Pagan — Arts & Sciences: STEM​

  • Vice President of Leadership – Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society

  • Chairperson of the Phi Theta Kappa Induction Committee for both the fall and spring inductions

  • Co-chair for mentorship program called "Honors in Action," which helps incoming freshman adapt to their college experience

  • Testified on behalf of community colleges in front of NJ's Senate Budget and Appropriations committee hearing

  • Selected as a panelist providing community college students' perspectives at ACHIEVE conference in Washington D.C.

  • Student speaker at RCGC's 2015 Commencement


Jessica Rodgers — Nuclear Medicine Technology​

  • Co-president of the Nuclear Medicine Technology Club

  • Volunteered for RCGC's Open House

  • Participated in the Mother's Matter 5K Run, and basket assembly in the spring 2014 and 2015

  • Volunteered for Club Day and Women in Technology Fair

  • Presented for spring symposium representing RCGC

Kelly Terry — Marketing & Management​​

  • Fall 2013 intern for Student Life working with students planning the annual KotoriCon convention with the JAG Club

  • Integral volunteer and contributed to the successful of the KotoriCon convention in 2014 and 2015

  • Head of Press Relations in 2014

  • Head of Guest Relations in 2015


Caryn Shay — Nursing​

  • Active member of RCGC's Student Nurses Organization

  • Researched, developed and proposed a new nursing mentoring program for RCGC and presented it to nursing faculty to seek approval

  • Active mentor and recruiter for Nursing Program
