Deptford Twp. – The Center for People in Transition at Rowan College at Gloucester County hosts a number of empowerment, legal and financial workshops during the month of January. Unless otherwise noted, all workshops are free and open to the public. Registration is mandatory. Must be at least 18 years or older to register.  Call 856-415-2222 or email to register.

"How to Sell or Buy a House During Divorce" — RE/MAX Connection Real Estate Agent Brian Ziegenfuss will provide helpful tips on how to avoid nine critical mistakes when buying or selling a house. It meets on Wednesday, Jan. 6, from 7 to 9 p.m.

"Intermediate Computers" — Learn how to properly use Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs during this 40-hour course. It costs $40 for displaced homemakers and $100 for non-displaced homemakers. Participants can sign up for the night course that meets Thursday nights from Jan. 7 to Mar. 31 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. or for the day course that meets on Fridays from Jan. 8 to Feb. 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

"Mobile Phone 101-How to Use Your Phone Effectively to Organize Your Life" — Chané Gilliam, M.S. Computer Information Systems, will inform participants on how to use mobile phones to stay connected and engaged in private and professional ways. Android and IPhone apps will be discussed as well as other functions and features that will help in learning how to correctly use each device to their full potential. Step by step instruction on setting up these devices will be demonstrated. This class meets on Monday, Jan. 11 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This workshop is sponsored by People in Transition and Heart of Gloucester County.

 "Financial Aspects of Divorce" — Joseph Johnson, owner of Main Street Financial, will explain a broad range of monetary issues that individuals face when going through divorce. This class is designed to help participants avoid costly mistakes, clarify expectations and plan for a "successful" divorce. It meets Tuesday, Jan. 12, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

 "How to Wear Your Ruby Slippers: Growing Self-Confidence" — Dorothy's ruby slippers were a metaphor, she always had the strength within herself. Certified Professional Life Coach Sharon Roth-Lichtenfeld will help those in need to find their inner strengths and core values in order to grow self-confidence during times of stress and adversity. Strategies and exercises will be included in this workshop. It meets Wednesday, Jan. 13 from 7 to 9 p.m.

"Laws of Separation and Divorce" — Barbara Barclay Moore, Esq. and Kimberly A. Greenfield, Esq. will speak on grounds for divorce, selecting an attorney, court procedures, alimony, equitable distribution, custody, visitation rights and other concerns. The workshop meets Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 7 to 9 p.m.

"Your Family Tree" — People often wonder how their family of origin has influenced their lives. The ability to cope with divorce or death of a spouse has been acquired in certain ways from family. Licensed Professional Counselor Dr. Jennie McQuaide, Ph.D., will help participants understand that studying their family trees can provide important insights regarding relations and behavioral patterns that are handed down from generation to generation. The class meets on Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

"Declutter Your LIFE: Time, Mind and Emotional Management" – In order to successfully maintain a "clutter free" life, one must improve time management skills, change unhelpful thought patterns, and learn how to effectively communicate feelings. In this training Shannon White, MSW, LCSW will examine the unhelpful thinking patterns and mental and emotional habits that cycle people into procrastination, ineffective use of time, and poor communication which all result in stress and anxiety. This workshop is sponsored by People in Transition and the Heart of Gloucester County. It meets Monday, Jan. 25, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

"Understanding Your Investments" — Joseph Johnson, owner of Main Street Financial, will share information to help participants better understand investments and to plan for their financial future. Topics include stocks versus bonds, mutual funds, investing, tax-deferred investing, risk management and estate planning techniques. It meets Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

"Lions and Tigers and Bears~ Oh My! Riding the Emotional Roller Coaster Ride" — Whether it's large or small, change can be a roller coaster ride of emotions, feelings and thoughts. Certified Professional Life Coach Sharon Roth-Lichtenfeld will help attendees to uncover and understand all the twists and turns to help support them to maneuver the ride with control and ease. This workshop meets Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m.
