Services & Policies

Ask a Librarian

Ask a Librarian can help students develop search strategies and answer questions about accessing or using the Library's online databases and brief factual questions about subjects such as checking citations.

Audiobooks

Audiobook in the OverDrive Media Console™ format can be checked out and downloaded from the sjrlc.lib.overdrive.com website onto a home computer but cannot be downloaded on computers in the Rowan College Library.

Circulation

The circulation page provides information on books, interlibrary loans, CDs, educational videotapes, popular DVDs, reserves, overnight reserves and calculators.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary loan (ILL) is available for materials not available in the Rowan College Library. ILL forms are available at the Circulation Desk. After the form is filled out with the pertinent information, the librarian on duty will approve and initial the form. Requests also can be placed online through the JerseyCat  Database. On average, it takes one week to fill an ILL request, depending on the availability and lending policies of the lending library.

Library Card

Students should sign up for Library/ID cards at the Circulation Desk after registering for courses. Proof of Rowan College registration is required. The library card must be updated each semester with a current validation sticker. Individual photos will be taken for the library/ID card, and photography times and locations will be posted in the Library.

The LOGIN library/ID card may be used not only at the Rowan College Library, but at numerous other participating libraries in Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland counties. County residents who do not have a LOGIN card may apply for borrowing privileges at the Rowan College Library for an annual fee of $10. Lost cards must be reported
immediately to avoid unauthorized use. A replacement fee of $10 is charged for lost cards.

Photo ID Requirement/Parking

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, as amended helps protect the privacy of student education records.  The intent of the legislation is to ensure the privacy and accuracy of education records.  It applies to all institutions that are recipients of federal aid administered by the Secretary of Education.  RCGC requires photo ID for all business transactions.  Students without college-issued photo identification will be referred to the appropriate college administrator for assistance.

Photo IDs and parking decals are available in the Student Services during normal operating hours.

Policies

Gloucester County residents and the public are welcome to use the facilities to read, research, access information, contemplate, study and do homework subject to College and Administrative policies and to the above rules and regulations. These rules and regulations were developed to ensure access to materials, preserve the rights of all
to use the Library and protect the facilities from misuse. All Library users are asked to be considerate of others.

Reference

Specific help in answering questions or using the Library's print and online resources is available whenever the Library is open. Students may call the Reference Librarian at 856-415-2253 for assistance or visit the Reference Desk when on campus.

Reserves

Reserve materials are available at the Circulation Desk. Professors place materials such as reprints, films or books on reserve in the Library. Some of this material is not listed in LOGIN, the Library's web catalog, because some of the readings are photocopies of articles or personal materials belonging to professors. Items on reserve must be
used in the Library unless otherwise specified by faculty members. The staff at the Circulation Desk assists students in locating these materials.

Visually Impaired

A Vantage image enlarger is available for visually impaired students. Students
with special needs may request these assistive services through the Library. The Library can assist Rowan College students in subscribing to "textbooks on tape" from various government agencies.
