Application Checklist

 

 Keep organized as you move through the financial aid application process by checking off each requirement.

          STEP #1: Create Your Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID

  • Visit fsaid.ed.gov
  • Students age 23 and younger must report parent data on FAFSA. Therefore, at least one parent reported on the FAFSA must have an FSA ID in addition to the student. Visit the RCGC.edu/FinancialAid "Before You Start" webpage for information.

     

____ STEP #2: Apply for Federal Financial Aid

  • Complete the 2019-2020 FAFSA
  • Visit fafsa.ed.gov for information and to apply
  • Deadlines: May 1, 2019 for priority consideration; June 30, 2019 for standard filing

     

____ STEP #3: Apply for State Financial Aid

  • Complete the 2019-2020 application
  • Visit njfams.hesaa.org for information and to apply
  • Complete State Grant Record and comply with all "To Do List" requirements on njfams.hesaa.org by deadlines:
    • June 1, 2019 – FAFSA filing deadline for all renewal applicants
    • Sept. 15, 2019 – deadline for completing State Grant Record for renewal applicants (fall & spring)
    • Nov. 1, 2019 — deadline for completing State Grant Record for renewal applicants (spring only)
    • Sept. 15, 2019 – FAFSA filing deadline for all new applicants
    • Nov. 1, 2019 – deadline for completing State Grant Record for new applicants (fall & spring)
    • March 1, 2019  – deadline for completing State Grant Record for new applicants (spring only)

       

____ STEP #4: Apply for RCGC Scholarships

  • Visit RCGC.edu/Scholarships and select "Sign in and Apply" (use RCGC-issued username/password)
  • Deadlines: May 1, 2019 for 2019-2020

     

____ STEP #5: Review Your Student Aid Report (SAR)

  • Sent to personal email address listed on FAFSA
  • States your initial eligibility for aid programs and may ask you to make corrections to FAFSA
  • Estimated timeline: 3–10 days after filing online FAFSA or 14–21 days after filing paper FAFSA

     

____ STEP #6: Check RCGC Email Account

  • Office of Financial Aid and or Pro Verify  will request documentation via "Missing Documentation – Financial Aid" email notification
  • All requested paperwork must be submitted within 15 days of this email
  • Estimated timeline: 14–21 days after filing FAFSA with U.S. Department of Education (may be posted sooner)

     

____ STEP #7: Review Requirements on RCGC Portal

  • Requested documentation is listed on Portal under "Financial Aid Requirements" section
  • Check status of your file: "R" is required, "N" is in review, "I" is incomplete and "S" is satisfied
  • Estimated timeline: 14–21 days after filing FAFSA with U.S. Department of Education (may be posted sooner)

     

____ STEP #8: Submit Documents to Office of Financial Aid and Pro Verify (if applicable)

  • All requested documentation must be submitted to Financial Aid as one complete, organized file
  • Continue to check RCGC email and Portal; additional documentation may be requested to clarify discrepancies or make corrections
  • Deadline: 30 days after request for documentation (See Step #6); students are encouraged to submit documents ASAP

     

____ STEP #9: Accept Your Financial Aid Award

  • Once your file is reviewed, the Office of Financial Aid will package you for the aid in which you qualify
  • Log into the Portal and accept your aid package under "Financial Aid Awards" (loans only; grants automatically accepted)
  • Deadline: Immediately after your award is posted to the Portal and you receive the "RCGC Award Notification" email

____ STEP #10: Sign Your Master Promissory Note and Complete Entrance Counseling

  • Visit studentloans.gov (login with student FSA ID)
  • First-time student loan borrowers must sign a master promissory note and complete entrance counseling for the Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan program at StudentLoans.gov
  • Deadline: Immediately after you accept your Direct Loan package through the RCGC Portal
