Roadrunner Men's Tennis will advance to the NJCAA National Championships but were not able to overtake Brookdale CC this weekend for the Regional Championship. Despite winning four individual regional championships, the Roadrunners came up one point short of the title scoring 22 total team points to the Jersey Blues' 23. Freshman Sebastian Gonzalez supplied the weekend's highlight performance winning the invididual singles championship and then teaming with partner Andrew MacDonald to win the doubles championship.
"Sebastian is playing his best tennis right now and we hope that will continue as we start to prepare for the National Championships," commented Head Coach Brian Rowan. "I was really happy as well for Andrew, he battled all day and was terrific right at the end of that doubles match to help Sebastian earn the win."
The team of Gonzalez/MacDonald dropped the first set to Brookdale before storming back to win the final two sets in the last match of the day.
Steve Harbeson and Riccardo Savarese teamed up to win the #3 Doubles Championship and freshman Mike Colville won the #6 Singles Championship as well.
The team will prepare to travel to Plano, TX where they will compete for the NJCAA Division III National Championship starting May 15th.
