Having never played high school basketball growing up in Pennsauken, Chris Lyons had plenty to prove in his debut season with the RCGC Men's Basketball team this winter.

Let's just say that that not only have Lyons' coaches and teammates taken notice of his talents, but opposing players as well.

Lyons led five players in double figures with 19 points as the Roadunner Men's Basketball team rolled by Middlesex County College 92-77 in Thursday night Region XIX action. The RCGC freshman put on quite a show with several dunks in the second half while displaying tantalizing defensive skills that affected the outcome in the second half.

The Runners trailed 33-31 at halftime, but Lyons deposited 11 of his 19 in the second half, including his three thunderous dunks in the transition game, to help the host team secure the triumph.

The newest member of RCGC's starting lineup is also coming off another recent success aftert being named tournament MVP in the Roadrunner Classic last weekend.

"I didn't even play in high school, so this was a quite a transition to come in here and start," said Lyons, who is averaging 14.5 points per game. "I'm gaining some confidence, and hopefully I'll get better."

Head coach Chris Martin has appreciated having Lyons' presence in his starting lineup, one that has helped the Roadrunners off to a solid 10-3 start, including a 5-1 conference record along with four wins in a row.

"Chris (Lyons) is super athletic," said coach Martin. "He does things on the court others can't do and he proved to be a strong presence tonight."

Lyons was not the only strong presence in the Runners' lineup. Also finishing in twin figures were Na'Quan McPherson (Washington Twonship) with 17 points, Tashawn Tokely (Woodrow Wilson) with 15, Bryant Geddes (Lindenwold) with 12 and Deonte Rowland (Glassboro) with 11.

The Roadrunners face their next test Saturday at home (12 noon) against Community College of Philadelphia. CCP comes into the contest with an impressive 10-1 record.

"We beat them last year, and you can bet they will be ready for us this time," said Coach Martin. "This will be a great test for us."
