The opening was just the way Women's Head Soccer Coach Megan Ruttler hoped it would be -- come out in attack mode.
Ashley Engler, Megan Lord and Victoria Flynn were happy to oblige Saturday as they came out firing away to spark the Roadrunners to an easy 7-0 victory over Northampton Community College in the first-round of the NJCAA Region XIX playoffs.
The Roadrunners received three goals from Lord and two more from Flynn to earn the triumph. Engler, who netted the opening score just moments into the contest, and Josie O'Donnell also added goals as the Roadrunners raced to a 3-0 halftime lead and then added four more goals in the second half to seal the win.
"We've been practicing the past few days that once you get in the attacking third, go straight to the goal," commented Ruttler, who collected career win No. 99. "They took what we did in training and executed well -- which was nice to see."
Megan Lord, a former Glassboro High standout, noted that she and her teammates began the contest well prepared.
"We were ready to win the game right from the start," said Lord. "We really came out focused and ready to play. We were very intense throughout the game."
RCGC will square off against Brookdale Community College. which also won its first-round game, in the Region XIX Tournament Championship at County College of Morris next Sunday, October 29th.
"We have a great rivalry with Brookdale and it will be exciting," said Engler, a former Williamstown High star. "I was a little nervous playing Brookdale earlier in the season, but now that we've seen them, we're more confident."
