2017 RCGC Roadrunner Hall of Fame -- Looking Back at Career of Al Aires

The RCGC Roadrunner Hall of Fame will induct its Class of 2017 Class on Tuesday, March 7, at Adelphia's Restaurant in Deptford, NJ. To be honored will be: Al Aires, Mike Antonini, Mark Enders, Ozzie Huerta, Kirby Johnson, Rudy Mazzocca, Tom McCormack, and Kim Santos.​

 ​Today, we look back on the career of former All-American wrestler Al Aires. 

A 1980 graduate of Central Regional High School, Al compiled a 60-5-1 career record at Gloucester County College, posting a 26-2-1 mark in the 1980-81 season and a 34-3 record in 1981-82. In 1982, he capped off his brilliant GCC career with a fourth place finish at 142 pounds during the 1982 NJCAA National Wrestling Championships, earning All-American honors. Following his GCC career, he compiled a mark of 50-15 at Temple University.

Al later enjoyed a stellar coaching career at Jackson Memorial High School, where he was selected as District 24 Coach of the Year five times while also being named Region 6 Coach of the Year in 2000.  He compiled a 159-58-1 career record with 55 district, 15 region, and 15 NJSIAA state place winners. 

Aires has been honored by several organizations, having been inducted into the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame as well as the Region 6 and Central Regional halls of fame.​
