In conjunction with the Gloucester County Fire Academy, the Division of Continuing Education provides additional training via the Firefighter I course. Students learn more about the chemistry of fire, proper ventilation and suppression techniques as well as search-and-rescue strategies.
Certified by the state of New Jersey, this course conveys National Fire Protection Standard 1001 regulations. Students obtain more information on HAZMAT Level I Awareness, HAZMAT LEVEL II Operations, hazard communications and bloodborne pathogen risks.
Prior to enrolling, students must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Belong to a fire company, department or brigade
- Demonstrate physical fitness
- Enroll in the company’s respiratory protection program
- Complete and provide proof of I-100, I-700 and CPR training

- In-county resident: free
- Out-of-county resident: $150

Gloucester County Fire Academy
The Gloucester County Fire Academy operates as an autonomous unit within Rowan College at Gloucester County’s Law and Justice Division. It is a noncredit alternative program of study.
